Anthony McCarthy -
Musical Director
Anthony McCarthy was educated at Wells Cathedral School in Somerset before attending the University of Sheffield. After graduating and winning the recital prize he received
a scholarship from the Countess of Munster to study at the Royal College of Music. Anthony lives in Central London where he juggles a busy schedule of playing and conducting across the capital. As a pianist Anthony works regularly with the Mezin Trio and the London Salon Players with whom he has travelled around the world on various ocean liners. His other piano engagements include working closely with Opera Integra, Opera Camerata & 4Voices. As a conductor Anthony works with Chorus Mundi, a choir dedicated to overseas travel. Recent projects have included trips to Australia, Paris, Belgium and the Vatican. Anthony also runs a series of popular workshops for singing for the over-50’s. His work with actors and singers has taken him from the West End to the Middle East. When not travelling Anthony also works as an organist for the diocese of Westminster.
David Barrell - Director/Designer
(La Sonnambula, La Traviata)
David Barrell trained at London University, The Royal Academy of Music, London, and The American Opera Centre, Juilliard.
After winning first prize in the New York Oratorio Society
International Soloist Competition at Carnegie Hall, he began a distinguished career, singing leading roles from Mozart to Tippett in opera houses around the world.
He has appeared with Welsh National Opera, English National Opera, Scottish Opera, The Glyndebourne Festival, The Royal Opera House at the New York Metropolitan, Teatro Regio Turin, Opera de Nice, Maggio Musicale Florence, as well as the opera houses of Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid, and at the Wexford, Spoleto and Edinburgh International Festivals.
He has appeared in concert with among others The London Symphony Orchestra, The Philharmonia, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The Nash Ensemble, The London Sinfonietta and The Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and with such distinguished conductors as Sir David Wilcox, Sir Charles Mackeras, Carlo Rizzi, Neeme Jarvi and Bruno Bartoletti.
David also directs and designs regularly in Holland, where his recent credits include Cavelleria Rusticana, The Impresario (Mozart), and The Magic Flute. He directed La Sonnambula for the company in winter 2009 and is delighted to be directing
La Traviata for them in 2010.
